Alendronate is a bisphosphonate medication primarily used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and in men. It is also used to treat Paget's disease of bone and osteoporosis caused by glucocorticoid use. Alendronate works by inhibiting osteoclast activity, the cells responsible for bone resorption, thus slowing down bone loss and increasing bone density.
For treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men, treatment of Paget's disease of bone, and glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis.
