Amisulpride is an atypical antipsychotic medication primarily used to treat schizophrenia and acute psychotic episodes. It belongs to the benzamide class of antipsychotics and acts as a selective dopamine D2 and D3 receptor antagonist, with higher affinity for D2/D3 receptors in limbic structures compared to those in striatal regions. This preferential binding profile is thought to contribute to its efficacy in treating both positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia with a lower risk of extrapyramidal side effects.
For the treatment of schizophrenia, including acute exacerbations and maintenance therapy.
