Brand: Iopidine
Apraclonidine is an alpha-adrenergic agonist, primarily an alpha-2 agonist, used to lower intraocular pressure (IOP). It works by decreasing aqueous humor production and increasing uveoscleral outflow. It is typically used short-term to prevent or control IOP spikes after laser eye surgery and sometimes before and after other ophthalmic procedures. It is also occasionally used to manage chronic open-angle glaucoma.
Used to lower intraocular pressure, particularly after laser eye surgery and sometimes in chronic open-angle glaucoma.

Additive or synergistic effects on blood pressure.
Outcome:
Increased sedation.
Mechanism:
Additive CNS depressant effects.
Outcome:
May slightly reduce the IOP-lowering effect of apraclonidine.
Mechanism:
Caffeine may have mild vasoconstrictive effects.
Most likely new formulation: Sustained-release ocular insert (Year: 2026, 70% confidence)
Based on current usage trends and clinical trial data, apraclonidine's approval status is likely to remain stable (95% confidence).
