Brand: Tracrium, Atracurium-10
Atracurium besylate is a non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent used adjunctively in anesthesia to facilitate endotracheal intubation and to provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation. It belongs to the benzylisoquinolinium class of neuromuscular blockers and works by competitively blocking the binding of acetylcholine to nicotinic receptors at the neuromuscular junction, thus preventing muscle contraction.
Used adjunctively in anesthesia to facilitate endotracheal intubation and provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation.
Outcome:
Increased neuromuscular blockade
Mechanism:
Synergistic effect at the neuromuscular junction
Outcome:
May increase or decrease neuromuscular blockade
Mechanism:
Electrolyte imbalances
Outcome:
Reversal of neuromuscular blockade
Mechanism:
Increased acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction
Most likely new formulation: Controlled-release atracurium for prolonged muscle relaxation (Year: 2026, 70% confidence)
Based on current usage trends and safety profile, Atracurium is expected to maintain its approved status with a 95% likelihood.
