Baclofen is a skeletal muscle relaxant primarily used to treat muscle spasticity caused by conditions such as multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, and cerebral palsy. It acts by inhibiting the release of excitatory neurotransmitters in the spinal cord, reducing muscle tone and spasms. Baclofen belongs to the class of GABAergic drugs, mimicking the inhibitory effects of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).
