Betahistine is a histamine analogue that is primarily used to treat symptoms of Ménière's disease, a disorder of the inner ear. It is thought to improve blood flow to the inner ear and reduce endolymphatic pressure, thereby alleviating symptoms such as vertigo, tinnitus, and hearing loss. Although its precise mechanism of action is not fully understood, it is believed to act as both a weak H1 receptor agonist and a strong H3 receptor antagonist in the vestibular nuclei.
Used to treat symptoms of Ménière's disease, including vertigo, tinnitus, and hearing loss.
