Ceftaroline fosamil is a cephalosporin antibiotic indicated for the treatment of acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI) and community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (CABP) in adults. It is a beta-lactam antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Ceftaroline exhibits activity against a broad range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and some resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae strains.
