Celecoxib is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the coxib class. It selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), an enzyme responsible for inflammation and pain. Unlike traditional NSAIDs, celecoxib's selectivity for COX-2 reduces the risk of gastrointestinal side effects.
