Brand: Nimbex, Cisatracurium-hameln
Cisatracurium besylate is a non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent used adjunctively in anesthesia to facilitate endotracheal intubation and to provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation. It is a bisbenzylisoquinolinium compound and is classified as a competitive antagonist of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors at the neuromuscular junction.
For muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation, and to facilitate endotracheal intubation.
Outcome:
Increased neuromuscular blockade
Mechanism:
Synergistic effect at the neuromuscular junction
Outcome:
Increased neuromuscular blockade
Mechanism:
Inhibition of acetylcholine release
Outcome:
Reversal of neuromuscular blockade
Mechanism:
Inhibition of acetylcholinesterase
Most likely new formulation: Controlled-release formulation for prolonged muscle relaxation (2026, 30% confidence)
Based on current usage trends and clinical trial data, there is a low likelihood of regulatory changes to cisatracurium's status in the near future (<5% within the next 2 years).
