Clomipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) primarily used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It also has efficacy in treating depression, panic disorder, and certain phobias. Clomipramine increases the levels of serotonin and norepinephrine, neurotransmitters in the brain, by inhibiting their reuptake. It belongs to the dibenzazepine class of TCAs and is known for its potent serotonergic effects compared to other TCAs.
Primarily used for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), but also prescribed for depression, panic disorder, and phobias.
