Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet medication used to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in people at high risk. It belongs to the thienopyridine class of drugs and works by irreversibly inhibiting the P2Y12 receptor on platelets, preventing them from clumping together and forming blood clots.
