Clorazepate dipotassium is a benzodiazepine used to treat anxiety disorders, seizures, and alcohol withdrawal. It's a prodrug that's rapidly converted to its active metabolite, desmethyldiazepam (nordiazepam), which enhances the effect of the neurotransmitter GABA, leading to a calming effect on the brain. Clorazepate belongs to the class of benzodiazepines and exhibits anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, and sedative properties.
For anxiety disorders, seizures, and alcohol withdrawal symptoms.
Clorazepate dipotassium, like other benzodiazepines, carries a risk of dependence and abuse. It should be used with caution in patients with a history of substance abuse. Abrupt discontinuation can lead to withdrawal symptoms, including seizures. It should not be combined with other CNS depressants, such as alcohol or opioids, due to the risk of respiratory depression and death. The medication may also impair cognitive and motor function, so caution should be advised when driving or operating machinery.

Most likely new formulation: Extended-release formulation for improved patient compliance (Year: 2026, 60% confidence)
Based on historical usage patterns and current regulatory trends, there is a low ( <5%) likelihood of clorazepate being withdrawn from the market in the next 5 years.
