Cosyntropin is a synthetic peptide analog of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) used to diagnose adrenal insufficiency. It acts by stimulating the adrenal cortex to produce cortisol and other corticosteroids. Cosyntropin is a diagnostic agent and not intended for long-term therapeutic use.
