Brand: Inclev, Telaprevir Prolonged Release Capsules
D-Telaprevir, also known as telaprevir, is a protease inhibitor primarily used in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C genotype 1 infection in adult patients. It belongs to the class of direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) and works by targeting the NS3/4A protease enzyme essential for viral replication. D-Telaprevir was a significant advancement in HCV treatment, but it is now largely superseded by newer, more effective, and better-tolerated DAAs.
For the treatment of chronic hepatitis C genotype 1 infection in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin.
Outcome:
Reduced telaprevir concentration
Mechanism:
Induction of CYP3A4
Outcome:
Increased telaprevir concentration
Mechanism:
CYP3A4 inhibition
Outcome:
Slightly reduced telaprevir absorption
Mechanism:
Altered gastric pH
New formulations of telaprevir are unlikely due to the prevalence of superior treatment options. Focus is expected to shift towards pan-genotypic HCV therapies (95% confidence).
Due to the availability of newer, safer, and more effective DAAs, the usage of telaprevir is declining, with less than 1% of HCV patients expected to use it in the next 5 years.
