Deprenyl, also known as selegiline, is a monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) inhibitor primarily used in the management of Parkinson's disease. It works by preventing the breakdown of dopamine, a neurotransmitter crucial for movement control. It can be used alone in early stages or in combination with levodopa in later stages. It belongs to the class of substituted phenethylamines.
