Diazoxide is a potassium channel opener used to treat low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) caused by certain tumors of the pancreas. It works by preventing the release of insulin from the pancreas. Diazoxide is also used to treat low blood pressure (hypotension). It belongs to the thiazide class of diuretics but, unlike other thiazides, diazoxide increases blood sugar and blood pressure.
