Dipyridamole is a coronary vasodilator primarily used as an antiplatelet agent to prevent blood clots. It belongs to the pyrimido[5,4-d]pyrimidine class and works by inhibiting phosphodiesterase enzymes, increasing cyclic AMP levels, and blocking adenosine uptake, which leads to vasodilation and inhibition of platelet aggregation. It is often used in combination with aspirin for stroke prevention and after heart valve replacement.
Used to prevent blood clots after heart valve replacement and, in combination with aspirin, to prevent stroke.
