Etravirine is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) used in combination with other antiretroviral agents for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults who have experienced virologic failure due to resistance to other NNRTIs. It binds directly to reverse transcriptase, inhibiting the RNA-dependent and DNA-dependent DNA polymerase activities of the HIV-1 enzyme, preventing viral replication.
For the treatment of HIV-1 infection in treatment-experienced adults.
