Fexofenadine is a second-generation antihistamine used to treat allergy symptoms such as hay fever, hives, and other allergic reactions. It is a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist that works by blocking the action of histamine, a chemical released by the body during an allergic reaction. Unlike some older antihistamines, fexofenadine is less likely to cause drowsiness because it does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier.
For the relief of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives).
