Gadoversetamide is a gadolinium-based contrast agent used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to enhance the visibility of internal organs, blood vessels, and other tissues. It belongs to the class of non-ionic, linear, extracellular contrast media. Gadoversetamide works by shortening the T1 relaxation time of water protons in the body, making certain tissues appear brighter on MRI scans.
Used to enhance the visibility of internal organs, blood vessels, and tissues during MRI scans.
Gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) increase the risk of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) in patients with acute or chronic severe renal insufficiency (glomerular filtration rate <30 mL/min/1.73m2). Screen patients for renal dysfunction before use.
Outcome:
Increased risk of renal impairment
Mechanism:
Additive nephrotoxicity
Outcome:
Slightly increased risk of renal impairment
Mechanism:
Additive effects on renal function
Outcome:
May slightly delay absorption
Mechanism:
Delayed gastric emptying
Most likely new formulation: improved chelation to reduce gadolinium deposition (Year: 2025, 70% confidence)
Based on current usage patterns and safety profile, gadoversetamide is likely to maintain its approved status for MRI contrast enhancement (95% confidence).
