Brand: Ventavis, Ilomedin
Iloprost is a synthetic analog of prostacyclin (PGI2), a naturally occurring prostaglandin. It acts as a vasodilator and inhibitor of platelet aggregation, primarily used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension and Raynaud's phenomenon. It mimics the effects of PGI2 by binding to prostacyclin receptors, leading to smooth muscle relaxation and vasodilation. This improves blood flow and reduces vascular resistance in conditions like PAH. Iloprost also helps to prevent blood clots by inhibiting platelet activation and aggregation.
Used for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension and Raynaud's phenomenon.
