Generic: Isosulfan
Isosulfan is an alkylating antineoplastic agent used in combination chemotherapy regimens to treat various cancers. It belongs to the class of alkyl sulfonates and acts by cross-linking DNA, thereby disrupting DNA replication and leading to cell death. Isosulfan is commonly used with mesna to prevent hemorrhagic cystitis, a common side effect.
Isosulfan is used with mesna in combination chemotherapy regimens to treat various types of cancer.
Severe bone marrow suppression, including fatal events. Hemorrhagic cystitis, which can be severe and life-threatening, requires prophylactic administration of mesna. Pulmonary toxicity, including pneumonitis, pulmonary fibrosis, and pulmonary veno-occlusive disease, has occurred, and fatalities have been reported. Hepatic veno-occlusive disease and other forms of hepatotoxicity, including fatal events, have been reported. Secondary malignancies, including leukemias, have been reported.
