Lacosamide is an anticonvulsant medication used to treat partial-onset seizures in adults with epilepsy. It is classified as a functionalized amino acid and is believed to selectively enhance slow inactivation of voltage-gated sodium channels, thereby stabilizing neuronal membranes and reducing the repetitive firing of neurons associated with seizures. It can be used as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy.
