Lorazepam is a benzodiazepine medication used for the short-term treatment of anxiety, insomnia, seizures, and alcohol withdrawal. It works by enhancing the effect of the neurotransmitter GABA in the brain, leading to a calming effect. Lorazepam belongs to the benzodiazepine class and is a central nervous system depressant.
