Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used primarily to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that causes blood vessels to constrict, leading to increased blood pressure. Losartan belongs to the class of antihypertensive drugs and is often prescribed as a first-line treatment for hypertension, especially in patients who cannot tolerate ACE inhibitors. It is also used to protect the kidneys in people with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, and to reduce the risk of stroke in certain high-risk patients.

Outcome:
Additive hypotensive effects
Mechanism:
Combined use can lead to excessive lowering of blood pressure.
Outcome:
Reduced losartan absorption
Mechanism:
Antacids can interfere with losartan absorption.
