Lurasidone is an atypical antipsychotic medication primarily used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It acts as an antagonist at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, and also exhibits partial agonist activity at serotonin 5-HT1A receptors. This combination of receptor interactions is thought to contribute to its efficacy in managing both positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia, as well as mood episodes in bipolar disorder.
