Metoclopramide is a medication used primarily to treat nausea and vomiting, particularly in cases of gastroparesis (delayed stomach emptying). It belongs to the class of medications called dopamine receptor antagonists. It works by increasing the rate at which the stomach empties its contents into the small intestine. Metoclopramide also enhances the action of acetylcholine, promoting gastrointestinal motility.
For nausea, vomiting, and gastroparesis.
Metoclopramide has a Black Box Warning for the risk of tardive dyskinesia, a serious movement disorder that can be irreversible. Long-term use and high doses increase the risk.
