It is a non-acidic prodrug that is metabolized in the liver to the active metabolite 6-methoxy-2-naphthylacetic acid (6MNA). 6MNA inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX), an enzyme responsible for producing prostaglandins, which contribute to pain and inflammation.
