Nicorandil is a vasodilator used to treat angina pectoris (chest pain). It belongs to the class of potassium channel activators and also possesses nitrate-like properties. It works by widening the blood vessels, which improves blood flow to the heart muscle and reduces the workload on the heart, thus alleviating angina symptoms. It is often prescribed when other anti-anginal medications are not effective or tolerated.
