Paraldehyde is a sedative-hypnotic drug, a central nervous system depressant, and an anticonvulsant. It was formerly used to treat insomnia, seizures, and alcohol withdrawal. It works by enhancing the effects of GABA, a neurotransmitter that inhibits brain activity.
