Pralidoxime is an antidote used to treat organophosphate poisoning, a type of nerve agent exposure. It belongs to a class of drugs called cholinesterase reactivators. Organophosphates inhibit acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme crucial for nerve function, leading to a buildup of acetylcholine and subsequent overstimulation of cholinergic receptors. Pralidoxime works by reactivating acetylcholinesterase, restoring normal nerve function.
For treating organophosphate poisoning, including nerve agent exposure.
