Pregabalin is an anticonvulsant drug used to treat neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and certain types of seizures. It is a structural analog of the inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), but its precise mechanism of action is not fully understood. It is believed to bind to the alpha2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system, reducing the release of neurotransmitters such as glutamate, noradrenaline, and substance P, which are involved in pain transmission.
For neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and as an adjunctive therapy for partial onset seizures.
Pregabalin carries a black box warning regarding the risk of suicidal thoughts and behavior.
