Generic: S-benzoylmercaptoacetyltriglycine
S-benzoylmercaptoacetyltriglycine (also known as benzoylmercaptoacetyltriglycine or MAG3) is a diagnostic imaging agent primarily used in nuclear medicine for evaluating renal function. It is a small molecule that is radiolabeled with technetium-99m (99mTc) and administered intravenously. Following injection, 99mTc-MAG3 is rapidly cleared by the kidneys through tubular secretion, allowing for dynamic imaging of renal blood flow, glomerular filtration rate (GFR), and tubular function.
Used for renal function evaluation, particularly renal blood flow, GFR, and tubular function.
Most likely new formulation: Improved radiolabeling techniques for enhanced image quality (Year: 2025, 70% confidence).
Based on current usage patterns and clinical trial data, the likelihood of MAG3 remaining a key diagnostic tool for renal function assessment is high (over 90%).
