Thalidomide is an immunomodulatory drug with anti-angiogenic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is used to treat certain types of multiple myeloma and complications of leprosy. Historically, it was prescribed for morning sickness but was withdrawn due to severe teratogenic effects. It belongs to the class of phthalimide derivatives.
Used to treat multiple myeloma and erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL), a complication of leprosy.
Thalidomide can cause severe birth defects if taken during pregnancy. It is contraindicated in pregnancy and requires strict adherence to a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program.
