Tigecycline is a glycylcycline antibiotic, a derivative of minocycline, used to treat complicated skin and skin structure infections, complicated intra-abdominal infections, and community-acquired bacterial pneumonia. It is a bacteriostatic agent that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit. Tigecycline exhibits a broad spectrum of activity against gram-positive, gram-negative, and anaerobic bacteria, including many multidrug-resistant strains.
