For the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet and exercise are inadequate.
Outcome:
Disulfiram-like reaction, hypoglycemia
Mechanism:
Increased acetaldehyde levels, altered tolazamide metabolism
Outcome:
Reduced hypoglycemic effect
Mechanism:
Thiazides may induce hyperglycemia.
Outcome:
May decrease the effectiveness of tolazamide
Mechanism:
Caffeine can stimulate insulin release, potentially counteracting the effects of tolazamide.
Most likely new formulation: None predicted (0% confidence).
Based on declining usage trends and the availability of newer antidiabetic agents, the likelihood of tolazamide being reformulated or having new indications approved is low (less than 5%).
