Trimipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) primarily used to treat major depressive disorder. It belongs to the dibenzazepine chemical class and works by increasing the levels of certain neurotransmitters in the brain, such as norepinephrine and serotonin, which are thought to be crucial for mood regulation. Trimipramine also has sedative and anxiolytic properties.
Used to treat major depressive disorder, and sometimes anxiety and insomnia.
Suicidal thoughts or actions in children, adolescents, and young adults; increased risk of suicidal thinking and behavior (suicidality) in short-term studies in children, adolescents, and young adults with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and other psychiatric disorders. Anyone considering the use of trimipramine maleate or any other antidepressant in a child, adolescent, or young adult must balance this risk with the clinical need.
