Zileuton is a leukotriene synthesis inhibitor used to manage and prevent asthma symptoms. It belongs to a class of drugs that block the production of leukotrienes, inflammatory chemicals that contribute to airway narrowing and inflammation in asthma. By inhibiting 5-lipoxygenase, the enzyme responsible for leukotriene synthesis, zileuton helps reduce bronchoconstriction, mucus production, and airway inflammation.
